A Family, but Also a Collective
At Bamboul’âne, there’s Claire, who founded the business with her parents in 1994, starting with the first hiking donkeys, the first trails, and a tiny campground.
There’s Eva, Claire’s daughter, who grew up on the farm and now handles a large part of the management and the herd.
There’s Eywenn, Eva’s partner, who works on the farm.
Bamboul’âne is also a collective of about eight people who take care of the herd and the property.
We are all passionate about our work, in love with our region, and crazy about our donkeys!
The Herd
Hiking Donkeys
For 30 years, we’ve lived alongside our donkeys in the Eourres region. Nestled between Provence and the Hautes-Alpes, the local mountains provide an ideal environment for donkeys. The dry terrain and diverse, nutrient-rich grass offer excellent living conditions.
Our herd grazes across roughly 200 hectares year-round, enclosed in spacious pastures spanning dozens of hectares, crisscrossed by streams. Most of Bamboul'âne’s donkeys were born here.
For years, we’ve made it a priority to train them to be gentle with humans—especially children. We’ve carefully selected donkeys that enjoy human interaction and love trekking.
The Cows
Our Highland cattle are hardy animals—their long coats make them perfectly suited for winter. Roussette, Milka, Tsuki, and their calves graze in the same pastures as the donkeys for part of the year. In summer, they stay up in the mountains, only coming down near the house in winter.
The Méouge Valley – Where Is It?
Nestled between Provence and the Hautes-Alpes, Eourres is a small village in the Méouge Valley, in the southeastern part of the Baronnies Provençales Natural Park. It lies close to Sisteron and Laragne to the east, and Montbrun-les-Bains and Buis-les-Baronnies to the west.
At the southern edge of the Drôme and near the Ventoux region, this area is where nature celebrates the meeting of mountain landscapes and Provençal climate. Away from major roads, this somewhat forgotten land is protected by rugged mid-altitude mountains—much to the delight of our hikers and donkeys.

When you hike with us and our donkeys, you’ll explore one of the most beautiful and wildest corners of the Baronnies Provençales Natural Park. Our routes are incredibly diverse, spanning three stunningly different valleys:
The Jabron Valley, at the foot of the Montagne de Lure—land of writers Jean Giono and Pierre Magnan, with its oak forests, the scent of thyme and lavender.
The Méouge Valley, with its beech groves, pine woods, mountain pastures, and its lively river with crystal-clear waters.
The Céans Valley, home to the village of Orpierre and its famous climbing site, where steep cliffs suddenly remind you that you’ve reached the foothills of the Hautes-Alpes.
To help you discover this region, we’ve designed trails for all levels—from seasoned hikers to leisurely strolls—all paced for the rhythm of a donkey. Along the way, you’ll be treated like royalty, as we’ve handpicked small, family-run stops with artisans, artists, farmers, and even a paleontologist who offer workshops to share their passions with you.

Sur ce circuit nous alternons belles journées de marche (15km), petites étapes (entre 5 et 9 km) et journée de repos où la rivière n'est jamais loin pour une baignade!
Cette randonnée peut se faire de gîte en gîte ou en bivouac ou mixte.
Première petite étape pour aller à Lachau, vous pourrez y faire un atelier "art de la terre" avec Katya et partir avec le berger Xavier dans son troupeau et, comme Le Petit Prince y dessiner un mouton.
Le deuxième jour, on se lève tôt et on part sur une belle journée de marche pour rejoindre Salerans, où vous rencontrerez Ben, qui vous propose un atelier "musique verte": à la découverte des plantes et de leur utilisation pour la fabrication d'instruments, ou bien un tour sur son terrain,longé par la rivière pour découvrir toutes les petites bêtes qui s'y cachent, apprendre à les reconnaître et les nommer.
Une troisième étape vous attend, une journée pleine de dénivelés mais en récompense vous rencontrerez Kim et Katleen, dans le petit camping en bord de rivière qui sauront vous apporter une journée de repos bien méritée agrémentée d'un atelier "fossile": vous partirez à la recherche de fossiles, les déterrerez et découvrirez l'atelier d'un paléontologue passionné.
Et vous pourrez rentrer à Bamboul'âne, la tête et les poches pleines de souvenirs!
Pour découvrir en une semaine les 3 belles vallées qui nous entourent avec des étapes de 7 à 15km:
La vallée du Jabron, dominée par la Montagne de Lure, le plus haut sommet de la région.
La vallée du Céans, avec ses incroyables falaises
La vallée de la méouge, sillonnée par une rivière pleine de points d'eau et de fossiles.
Première journée en direction de St Vincent sur Jabron en bivouac en bordure de rivière dans un camping avec une belle piscine pour vous rafraichir. Ensuite, vous marcherez jusqu'au village de Montfroc pour une nuit en gîte ou en bivouac. Puis vous grimperez sur le col pour redescendre sur le village de Lachau, où vous passerez la nuit en gîte ou en camping au bord de la Méouge. De là vous pourriez rentrer à Bamboul'âne, mais pour les plus téméraires continuons l'aventure..
Repassez un col pour rejoindre Orpierre pour une nuit en gîte ou en bivouac et le lendemain revenez dans la vallée pour rejoindre Barret sur Méouge et profitez d'une nuit en camping ou en yourte au bord de la méouge.
Pour finir en beauté, montez au col du vieux bus pour une nuit sauvage en pleine forêt en bivouac autonome... Et finalement rentrez à Bamboul'âne par les crêtes et les hêtraies.
Les vacances c'est quand même fait pour se reposer tout en découvrant de nouvelles activités!
Nous vous proposons de profiter de notre camping ou d'un hébergement insolite, tout en faisant connaissance avec un compagnon qui saura ravir petits et grands...
Vous pourrez passer au moins 3 jours avec un âne qui deviendra le "vôtre", apprendre à le reconnaître dans le troupeau, l'attraper et vous en occuper de la brosse à la conduite.
Nous vous donnerons tout nos conseils pour savoir être autonome,une carte avec toutes les belles balades à faire autour du village (des tours de 1h à 5h de marche) et vous pourrez profiter de ce nouveau membre de la famille sans obligations d'horaire ni de circuits!
Une journée où vous êtes un peu fatigués? Pas de soucis! Sortez votre âne, aller faire vos courses dans le village en le "garant" devant le magasin, partagez une bonne glace et allez trempez les pieds dans le ruisseau en lui faisant un petit parc pour qu'il fasse une sieste en veillant sur vous d'une oreille attentive et faites pleins de câlins !
