Go hiking
with a donkey

A human and supportive adventure

Over 30 years ago, a group of donkey enthusiasts came together to give this animal a place in the leisure society.

Based on values of solidarity, respect for animals, and connection to nature, the FNAR promotes authentic tourism and supports the rural economy. It ensures compliance with a quality charter and guides new members before their official approval.

With over 60 donkey handlers, 1200 donkeys, and 25,000 families who have discovered hiking in France, FNAR operates through member contributions and collective management decided at an annual general meeting.

A donkey can carry around 30kg (about 10% of its weight) of luggage for 2 to 4 people, using equipment provided by the handler: pack saddle, halter, lead rope, and saddlebags.

It walks at a steady pace of 3 to 4 km/h and can carry young tired children, under parental supervision.

“I remember that
gray donkey with big
ears, so gentle and
brave, climbing the
rocky paths like a
true pilgrim.”
