A human adventure of solidarity

Over 30 years ago, a group of donkey enthusiasts got together to restore the animal's place in leisure society.

Founded on values of solidarity, respect for animals and connection with nature, FNAR promotes authentic tourism and supports the rural economy. It ensures compliance with a quality charter and supports new members before they are officially validated.

With more than 60 donkey drivers, 1,200 donkeys and 25,000 families who have discovered hiking in France, the FNAR operates thanks to membership fees and collective management decided at the annual general meeting.

A donkey can carry around 30kg (i.e. 10% of its weight) of luggage for 2 to 4 people, using equipment provided by the donkey owner: pack, halter, lead rope and saddlebags.

It walks at a steady pace of 3 to 4 km/h and can carry tired young children under parental supervision.

"I remember this
grey donkey with big
ears, so docile and valiant
so docile and valiant
rocky paths
like a true pilgrim."
