The Loire
with a donkey

The GR®3, also called the "Loire Trail," is an exceptional hiking route that follows the course of France’s longest river, from its source at Mont Gerbier-de-Jonc in Ardèche to its estuary at La Baule on the Atlantic Ocean.

Stretching over 1300 km, it crosses a great diversity of landscapes and natural and cultural heritage. The first marked long-distance trail in France, the GR3 runs along the Loire, this iconic river listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes.

The Châteaux of the Loire
Walking along its banks, hikers discover a mosaic of landscapes: volcanic highlands, wild gorges, fertile plains, vineyards, and Loire castles. From Orléans to Tours, the trail unveils architectural treasures such as Chambord, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Villandry, and Azay-le-Rideau.
