Camargue
with a donkey

The GR®69 La Routo®, a 540 km route following the old transhumance trails, invites you to immerse yourself in the heart of pastoralism, from the wild plains of the Camargue and Crau to the Stura valley and Cuneo in Italy.

This itinerary offers a journey through time and the various landscapes of transhumance, discovering pastoral farming — a living activity rich in culture and traditions — and the territories it has shaped: vast meadows, steep mountains, forgotten hamlets, and picturesque villages. Hiking La Routo also means encountering a rich heritage: open-air museums, archaeological sites, traditional architecture, and local gastronomy punctuate the route.

With a pack donkey as your companion, the adventure takes on a unique dimension. Your faithful friend will carry part of your equipment and offer you a peaceful pace, perfect for contemplation and meeting new people. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a traveler seeking disconnection, this experience will immerse you in the authenticity of the transhumance trails.
