Saint Guilhem
with a donkey

From the highlands of Aubrac to the Languedoc garrigues, the Saint Guilhem-le-Désert trail is a magnificent path.

Known as the Chemin Roumieu, it is an ancient transhumance route marked with crosses dating back to the Middle Ages. Along the way, you will encounter a diverse architectural heritage and prestigious natural sites. You will cross the Aubrac plateau, Causse Sauveterre, Tarn Gorges, Causse Méjean, Cévennes National Park, Mont Aigoual, Cirque de Navacelles, Larzac, and finally the stunning village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.

Fourteen to sixteen days will allow you to cover the 240 km of the Saint Guilhem-le-Désert trail, largely following the GR 60 / 70. Several route variants exist. Also called the Great Aubrac Drover’s Road, it once allowed Auvergne pilgrims to reach the Abbey of Gellone and Languedoc herds to reach the high mountain pastures.

The Friends of the Saint Guilhem Trail association actively promotes this exceptional route and brings together most of the accommodations and partners involved.
