Mont Saint Michel
with a Donkey

Starting from Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, the GR 22 crosses valleys, forests, and bocage countryside to reach the famous Mont-Saint-Michel.

This historic route has been traveled since the 11th century by pilgrims known as the Miquelots. It follows the Seine through Paris and gradually reveals gentle countryside dotted with charming villages. Leaving Île-de-France, it skirts the borders of Normandy and uncovers a fertile land hosting a rich ecosystem.

From the Avre valley to the Charentonne valley, passing through the Huisne and Eure rivers, you will encounter numerous features such as mills, forges, and the imposing Avre aqueduct. Then rise the rolling hills of Perche and its vast forest massifs.

Remarkable Landscapes
The Orne region shelters several major natural sites and two regional nature parks between the Paris Basin and the Armorican Massif. Finally, the route follows the granite-strewn coast of Manche. Hollow paths lead to remarkable landscapes such as the Sonce riverbed at Fosse-Arthour, the Cance waterfalls at Mortain, then the Avranchin region, which opens onto the Mont Bay with stunning sea views.
