The Hautes-Alpes
with a donkey

The GR® 58, an iconic long-distance trail in the Hautes-Alpes, is perfect for hiking with a donkey—a gentle, family-friendly, and immersive way to explore the 130 km Queyras Tour. Along alpine meadows, mountain passes, and streams, the donkey becomes a true companion, carrying your gear, setting a peaceful rhythm, and enriching the experience through a preserved natural landscape.

Well-marked and regularly maintained, the trail crosses diverse landscapes ideal for donkey-assisted hiking: larch forests, flowered alpine pastures, charming villages, high-altitude pastures, rocky ridges, and mountain passes. The trail reaches its highest point at Col de Chamoussière (2,884 m) and passes through Saint-Véran, the highest commune in Europe.

For lovers of long-distance hiking seeking authenticity, wide-open spaces, and alpine heritage, the GR® 58 offers a must-do experience.
