The Great Crossing of the Jura
The Great Crossing of the Jura takes long-distance hikers along the Jura crescent, following the legendary trails of the GR®5 and GR®9.
GR®5 and GR®9
Born in 1999, the Great Crossing of the Jura is inseparable from the massif. The GTJ association offers eight itineraries for sports and nature lovers, crossing the Jura Mountains and its three departments (Ain, Doubs, and Jura) from north to south. With routes reaching up to 500 km, the GTJ can be explored on foot, horseback, bicycle, mountain bike, snowshoes, cross-country skis... and now ski touring!
From mountain territory to exceptional terroir
At the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park, between 1000 and 1500 meters altitude, the Hautes Combes offer a mountainous territory with an exceptional, active, and vibrant terroir, where the natural environment remains strong and wild. You can hike on sections of this wonderful route. This authentic and lively area allows hikers to explore parts of this magnificent itinerary in a grand and rejuvenating setting.
The Land of Lakes
There is also the Land of Lakes, nestled between forests and plateaus. A little natural paradise in shades of blue and green, inviting contemplation and strolls with a donkey. Cross spruce forests, wander through lush and flower-filled valleys, and climb ridgelines offering breathtaking views of the High Chain of the Jura Mountains to the east and the Jura plateaus unfolding in folds down to the plain in the west.
Come and discover the Haut-Jura, a magnificent land of wandering, its unique accommodations, and its exceptional flora and fauna. Experience a taste of a great route like the GTJ, accompanied by a gentle, endearing, strong companion—sometimes calm, sometimes mischievous—whether with family, friends, or almost alone in the world!
