A Complete Loop

A diagonal route following the Loire trails GR 3 and 302, passing through Le Puy-en-Velay, also allowing the creation of two additional routes.

Three Volcanic Massifs
The Tour of the Velay Volcanoes is perfect for discovering Le Puy-en-Velay and its surroundings. Between 800 and 1500 meters of altitude, this GR covers three different volcanic massifs, carved by the Loire River, with a great diversity of landscapes.

The Land of the Sucs
To the east lies the land of the sucs, with its Pelean-type volcanoes and the AOP fine fat beef of Mézenc.

The Land of the Gardes
To the west is the land of the gardes, Strombolian-type volcanoes with the AOP green lentil of Le Puy. The diagonal route lets you discover the Le Puy-en-Velay basin with its surtseyan volcanoes and its remarkable architecture, such as the Polignac fortress or the Chapel of Aiguilhe.

You can also enjoy swimming in crater lakes: swim in Lake Bouchet and Lake Saint-Front — a true moment of happiness!
