Cluny Trails
with a donkey

The Cluny Trails form a network of nearly 800 km of hiking routes in France and Switzerland, allowing discovery of sites linked to the Cluny Order through varied and history-rich landscapes. These paths are supported by various associations dedicated to their promotion and maintenance.

The network is divided into several large geographical areas. In Switzerland, a 329 km route connects Bassins to Rougemont, passing through 11 major Cluniac sites. In the Southwest of France, a 120 km trail crosses Guyenne-Gascogne and allows exploration of remarkable sites like Moirax, Layrac, Saint-Maurin, and Moissac. Another major route, linking Switzerland to Cluny, stretches from Romainmôtier (Vaud) to Cluny (Saône-et-Loire), crossing Burgundy-Franche-Comté, the birthplace of the Cluny Order.

A hike suited to pack donkey trekking
Among these routes, the path from Cantal to Aveyron offers a true immersion in nature and history. Stretching 170 km, it starts in Bredons, crosses the Cluniac chapel of Manhaval (Taussac, Aveyron), and continues to Conques, offering magnificent and preserved landscapes. This trail is especially suitable for hiking with a pack donkey, an ideal way to enjoy the beauty of the area at a gentle pace. Accompanied by this endearing animal, hikers experience an adventure accessible to all, passing through green valleys, the mountains of Cantal, and villages rich in history.

Local associations, such as the Association of Cluny Trails Auvergne, affiliated with the French Federation of Cluniac Sites, actively contribute to promoting and developing these routes, ensuring an authentic and immersive experience for hiking and heritage enthusiasts.
